La Tour Eiffel
Bonjour! Paris was on the top of my list to visit when I planned out my trip to Europe, so finally arriving in the City of Love was just – breathtaking. When I asked my family & friends that have been to Paris before and their thoughts, and there was three recurring responses that I received
-
Paris is dirty.
-
Paris smells.
-
Paris is beautiful!
All three responses are true. Even though Paris is dirty ( it’s actually illegal to clean the Sacre-Coeur Basilica – a Roman Catholic Church ) and even though it smells ( yes, literally smells – like pee, it’s worse when you’re walking by the Siene River of course ) it’s what makes Paris, PARIS!
I was lucky enough to meet some wonderful people during my stay – Belen, Heather, Connor, Sapphire, Phil, Robert, Dana & Travis; HI GUYS! I miss all of your faces.
One of my favourite things I got to do in Paris was with the girls, we went to a grocery store to pick up a baguette, cheese, snacks & drinks; and sat in front of the eiffel tower and had a little picnic. It sounds so simple, and thats what made it amazing. You’re already in Paris, and you get so caught up with going to all of the museums and seeing all of the sights – that sometimes all you need is a little time to just sit down and enjoy the scenery and the company of the people that you’re with.
Musee du Louvre
When in Paris, one must do certain Parisan / Touristy things ( ^like the pose above in front of the Louvre Museum of course! ) My top recommendations include;
- The Eiffel Tower: Who goes to Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower? I went to Europe in the Summer, so you could only imagine how busy it was. And it didn’t help that the day I decided to go, that one of the lifts were broken to bring you up the Tower ( uh scary much?! I preferred to wait in the line for the other lifts that actually worked ) Though the wait was long, it was so WORTH the wait. Its quite windy by the time you get up there, but the view is absolutely breathetaking.
- NewEurope Paris Tour: I’ve written about these tours in several of my previous blog posts but there is a reason for it and its because they are absolutely A M A Z I NG. This was my favourite tour during my whole Europe trip and that’s all thanks to Connor! I highly recommend going on this tour and if you can, please do it with Connor ( haha remember when we snuck into his group girls? ) and if you do – tell him that I say hi all the way from Canada! & Don’t forget to write about your experience on TripAdvisor. It not only helps the guides on things they can update or change, but its great for other travellers as well. I also got the chance to go on the PubCrawl that NewEurope offered as well, with the lovely Sapphire as our guide. If you get the chance, definitely go and do it! It’s a fun way to meet people while your abroad, its filled with good times, good people & good memories.
- Palace of Versailles: I’ll actually be doing another blogpost all on Versailles – so stay tuned!
Notre-Dame de Paris
I also tried eating some typical Parisian dishes, including escargot (snails) & frog legs. If you know me, you would know that I’m very particular with the foods I eat. I usually stick to what I’m familiar with, but I told myself that this trip is about trying NEW things, and that included food. Surprisingly, I LOVED the escargot. It’s something that I would order from home if I were to see it on a menu at a restaurant. The frog legs were only okay in my opinion – the saying is true, that they do taste like chicken. However there were so many little bones, with not a lot of meat that I decided it was something I’m glad I tried, to say I have, but nothing great that I would want to try it again.
– Paris was one of the most amazing cities I’ve visited in my life thus far, and I cannot wait to go back. The next time I plan on going to France, I plan on visiting Cannes and maybe other places along the southern part of France. I’ve heard lots of great things about seeing the countryside, and I think its important to not only see the big cities but the other parts of any country as well.
