Plaza Mayor
Madrid was the first city that I decided to stay in an AirBNB instead of a hostel. The best advice I can give for that is the same for what hostel you choose to stay at, which is to do your research, and read tons of reviews. AirBNB’s will generally be more expensive than a hostel ( depending on what you choose ie: single shared room, private room, whole apartment, house etc ) However I thought it would be worth it to spend the little bit extra on a few nights to get the privacy, my own shower, and a real bed. And yes, it was totally worth it!

Unfortunately I got sick in Madrid, which hindered the amount of time I was actually able to spend enjoying the city. I was planning on making it to the 11 am walking tour,
but started to feel dizzy in the middle of Plaza Mayor ( It was +24 that day ) my vision got blurry, and I felt like I was going to hurl right in the middle of the busy square.
It was a national holiday in Madrid – Our Lady of Almudena, so the square was absolutely packed with people in every direction.
You could only imagine how scared I felt, being by myself in a foreign country where english wasn’t the main language. Needless to say I didn’t make the morning tour, that day ended up being a write off. It ended up working out for the better anyways, I got the much needed rest and hydration my body needed, and I met my new American friends Steve & Derrick on the tour that I did end up going on.

Despite feeling ill, I still made the most of the time that I spent in this beautiful city.
I was able to do the Tapas Experience Tour that I wasn’t able to do in Barcelona, which I think is a must while in Spain.
Though the Tapa’s were good, as well as the drinks,
but the best part of the tour?
THE EXPERIENCE!
Drinking red wine from a sac made from a goats bladder
Meeting new people is by faaar my favourite part about travelling.
You meet people from all over the world ( like my friend Lucy – from Australia, but lived in Italy, who then was travelling around Europe for a year ) !!
Everyone has different stories to tell, all unique and amazing in their own way.
