For me personally, it’s not about the Pink Shirt.
It’s about what it stands for… a united community taking a stand.
I’ve been a victim of bullying myself for many years growing up, being a foreigner in a new country,
having to learn a new culture, language and way of life.
My petite stature as well as quiet personality ended up working against me as a target for the bigger,
meaner kids in school, because they knew they could pick on me and I wouldn’t do anything about it. And in time, it turned me into the bully, which just continued the vicious cycle all over again.
But hey, everyone get’s bullied growing up right?
So that makes it the “norm”?
My answer is no, it doesn’t have to be the norm,
and that should be the world that we strive for.
I’m very lucky that the bullying I’ve endured was very minimal.
Unfortunately, that is not the case for millions of children all over the world – and for some, the results are extreme and even catastrophic.
This is my ask of all of you:
Together let’s strive towards a place where no one (child or adult) feels unsafe. Where everyone feels comfortable being completely & unapologetically themselves. Remember that everyone is fighting their own battle, so be kind to those around you.
Say hello to someone new at the office you’ve never spoken to before or ask someone how their day is going in the cafeteria line up.
You never know how much of an impact you can make with even a tiny gesture.
So let’s “DO THE RIGHT THING! “
