Hong Kong ’17

Hong Kong .. you stole my heart.
It’s very rare for me to travel and instantly fall in love. There are just so many beautiful things anywhere you look (if you try hard enough), but HK is something special.

Victorias Peak

When I went to Hong Kong, I actually had a friend there that I was able to visit too. It made the trip that much more enjoyable seeing a friendly face, but also to get the in’s and outs – one might miss that if they were only there to see the “touristy” side of things.
Because of what I wanted to see/do, I decided to stay on the Hong Kong side instead of the Kowloon side. Though staying anywhere that you can find that affordable would be fine, the transportation system there is one of the best in the world from all of my travels.
I booked with Hostel World & stayed at the Rainbow Lodge
The best part of staying at this hostel was definitely it’s location.
I was also lucky enough to stay at The W – if you ever have an opportunity to stay here I highly suggest it! Rooftop pool, great food & drinks, amazing rooms. Though I do have to admit it took me about 5 mins to figure out the shower, their bathrooms are pretty boujee. But I wouldn’t expect anything less considering the price tag on it
(basic room on any night is about
$600 CAD to give you an idea )

Food. Food. Food.
You’ll eat some of the best food IN THE WORLD in HK, I’m not kidding. I haven’t eaten dimsum since coming home because it is just not the same here. Sigh* if only I could eat michelin star dimsum all the time. My list could go on forever, but here are my top recommendations.
  1. Din Tai Fung
  2. Yardbird
  3. ICHIRAN
  4. Little Bao
  5. Jollibee – because of course I HAVE to eat here whenever I get the chance, it reminds me of home
One of the many things that I love about Hong Kong is that there is literally something for everyone!
Are you foodie? Do you like to hike? Wanna try to surf? Love partying? Shopping is a must?
I never thought that a place such as Hong Kong would have some of the most beautiful hikes for example, but that just shows that even the most unlikely thing could surprise you!

My new pal & I at Ngong Ping Plazza

Tian Tan Buddha
Again, my recommendations on things to do could go on forever, but here are my top items for things to do in HK
  1. Victoria’s Peak
  2. Ngong Ping 360 / Tian Tan Buddha
  3. Hong Kong Disneyland / Oceans Park
  4. Happy Valley (Wednesdays) to catch the horse races
  5. Tsim Sha Tsui at night

Dragonback’s Hike

One of the most fun things that I was able to do there was play beer pong. I know, it’s like I’m back in University or something, but hear me out. They actually have Beer Pong Bars! I’m talking there is a referee at your table, and if you miss, they pour your drink.

If you know me at all, you know that I have a little(okay maybe a big) competitive streak. So it was super fun to be able to do this out instead of in someone’s basement or garage!Hong Kong, I love you & I will most definitely see you soon .. ❤

With Love,
Murs xx
