Indonesia ’19

I know, I know. This post is VERY delayed. This post is so delayed ( or belated? do people use the word belated if it’s not in reference to a birthday greeting? mhm. ) that I almost didn’t want to write it. As the excuse goes, life happens, people get busy, and then a freakin’ pandemic hit. I thought I would have more time to write in the past year, and I probably did. But I was focused on adjusting to the new way of how the world was, and that took me longer than intended. Anyways, I’m here now! Details might be fuzzy but hey, I’m just gonna roll with it.

The last blog I wrote (Thailand) I wrote that I wasn’t sure if I would ever have another trip like that ever again in my life cause of the people I met and the experiences I had. Now while Indonesia was different, as I was older, wiser, at a different spot in my life, different country and people, I still had a truly unforgettable experience. I came to realize this, even though it was different than my previous trips, it was still amazing, and just as enjoyable. Things don’t have to be the exact same as it was for you to be able to enjoy something the same, you could even end up enjoying it MORE. Learning to let go of expectations and to just enjoy the moment, helped me have these experiences for what they were, instead of thinking of what they “should” be.

I took this tour with Tru Travels of course, with my bbfffaeae as my tour guide. The specific tour I picked was the Komodo Island Hopper! And there was a few reasons for choosing this particular tour:

  • I was in Indonesia for a week prior for a wedding
  • This tour is off the beaten path, with I like
  • I knew that I was also going to spend a few weeks after the tour in the main tourist spots, so I could do and see things that were part of other tours
  • The ability to see a part of Indonesia that a lot of other people don’t get to experience

There are so many beautiful places to explore in the world, that I try to do everything I can while I am visiting a particular city or country, because it’s pretty unlikely that I will go back in the near future. But Indonesia I will definitely be going back to at some point!

Indonesia is definitely a place that I will recommend people to visit, and not just Bali. Don’t get me wrong, Bali is beautiful, and of course the main reason why tourists visit Indonesia in the first place, but Indonesia as a whole is so mesmerizing, that if you can, try to see more than just what Bali has to offer.

Top recommendations I have are:

Tegalalang Rice Terraces
Monkey Forest
– Sand Bar/Luigi’s for a night out
– A beach club (I went to Finn’s, but Potatoe Head is the most popular) but be ready to spend some $$. And book ahead if you can if you plan on reserving a day bed
Waterbom Bali if you enjoy water parks!
– Gili T Island (Mad Monkey, Jiggy’s)
– Pink Beach
Komodo National Park
– Lovina Beach (if you go at the right time, you can catch a boat ride to see some dolphins!!)
– Manta Point to swim with some Manta Rays
– Surfing! Lots of great places to surf at really affordable rental prices

Honestly, the list can go on forever. And it all depends on what YOU like and want to do. And also what you have time for. Since I travel really far for these trips, as I’m flying from Canada, I try to plan out the most that I can. I’m a planner though, it helps me feel calm and prepared. Though I know other people do the opposite and just wing it! I do leave a few days to “chill” – but I want to make sure that I accomplish the things on my bucket list. A lot of people I meet are travelling for months at a time though, and have the luxury of time on their side. I generally only have 2 – 4 weeks depending on the trip, so I need to squeeze everything I can during my time there!

That’s all for now! I’m going to be more intentional about posting more often. I know I won’t be travelling for the foreseeable future, but I have some catching up to do anyways! Plus I’m thinking of how to expand my blog. Stay tuned!

Thanks for reading!

With love,
Murs
