Welcome to MIAMI!
I was very lucky to be able to go to Miami for a Google Conference, so what a perfect excuse to extend my trip to explore Florida as I’d never been before.

The traffic in Miami can be EXTREME, especially if you are trying to get to/from South Beach during busy times. So you’ve been warned to give yourself enough time to get from point A to point B. While usually when I’m travelling I like to embrace public transit to 1) see more of the city 2) save on costs, Miami isn’t really the place to do that (in my opinion). Everything is so spread out that having a vehicle is definitely a plus. Consider incorporating Uber/Lyft costs into your budget, or staying somewhere central to where you plan on spending most of your time if possible.

I happened to be there over Memorial Day weekend. So I was able to see the Air & Sea Show on South Beach. I had no expectations and woah. The speed and the volume of the fighter jet and other planes just … blew my mind. If you are sensitive to sounds, maybe consider a different time to visit. But if you are interested in seeing the Air & Sea Show, it’s definitely something cool to see.

I do have to call out that Miami is the place where people dress to impress. While I like to travel light & practical, just something to be mindful of if that’s something that you care about! And people don’t just get dressed up to go out at night, even just to go to the beach, walking around, shopping etc.

Once the business part of the trip was over, I was excited to go explore! I booked a tour to go to Everglades Holiday Park and it was my favourite part of the trip! They have pick up and drop off at some key hotel points in Miami, and it was very well organized. Was even able to hold a baby gator for a photo op at the end!

Any time I travel to a city that has a MLB team, I try to go to a game. I actually do enjoy watching baseball live (but not so much on TV). The tickets can be relatively cheap, and it’s just a good way to spend an afternoon/evening.

I did enjoy my time in Miami, and I lucked out with the weather while I was there. Though I’m not sure that I would be going back unless it’s a stop over to go to the Keys or somewhere else in the Caribbean. Just because it was quite expensive and a big party place, and I like to do more adventures and exploring (which I accomplished on this trip!)
